Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of oleic acid on myoblast proliferation, myogenic differentiation and mRNA expression of PGC-1α in differentiated myotubes. The level of myoblasts viability was not different in all myoblasts treated with oleic acid of different concentrations (0, 100, 300, 500μM). Myoblsts number, myotube fusion index and width, mRNA expression of PGC-1α were increased in a dose dependent manner, confirming that oleic acid promotes myoblasts activities possibility via mitochondrial biogenesis. These results provide a piece of cellular evidence that oleic acid could be considered as a potential therapeutic agent to promote satellite cell-mediated skeletal muscle regeneration following muscle injury.
