이 논문은 이인직의 牧丹峰(1912)에 대한 발굴 소개에 1차 목적이 있다. 이 작품은 혈의 루를 합방 후 개작한 것이다. 혈의 루는 1911년 6월 총독부에 의해 발매 금지 처분을 받는다. 이인직은 혈의 루를 대폭 개작해 제목을 牧丹峰으로 바꿔 다시 출간했다. 이 새로운 牧丹峰은 지금까지 알려진 모란봉의 상편에 해당하는 내용으로, 그 동안 출간되었다는 사실만 전해져 왔을 뿐이다. 단지 문장본(1940년 2월)이 이것이 아닐까 하는 막연한 가설로만 존재해오던 작품이다. 이 작품은 합방 전 작품과 큰 차이가 있다. 우선 내용적으로는 당시 우리나라가 독립국이라는 내용이 전부 고쳐졌거나 삭제되었다. 형식적으로는 서사 진행에 무리가 없는 한에서 문장이나 표현이 매우 간결해졌다. 합방 직후 총독부가 작가들에게 허락한 것이 무엇이며, 이를 통해 1910년대 소설사를 바라보는 새로운 시각을 확보했다는 데, 이 논문의 의의가 있다. 주제어개작, 동양서원, 牧丹峰, 이인직, 총독부, 한일합방, 혈의 루
Abstract
This article is intended to unearth and introduce the new The Moran Peak(牧丹峰)(1912) written by Lee In-jik, the adapted edition of Teardrops of Blood(血의 淚) after the Japanese annexation of Korea. As the Sales of the latter had been prohibited by the government-general in 1911, Lee tried to rewrite and adapt the novel. The new edition is the first volume of the well-known The Moran Peak(牧丹峰). While the fact that this adapted edition was published has been handed down, it has not been confirmed only to be guessed as the edition of the literary magazine Moonjang(1940.2.). The new edition has the many differences with the original text. In terms of content and form, the expressions that Chosun was a sovereign nation were deleted or changed, and the sentences became simple and clear so long as they didn't harm the narrative. They shows what the government-general permitted in writing at that time. By clarifying these facts, this article tries to show the new way of looking the literary history in 1910's.
