초록
It is known that the number and types of consonants as the syllable coda are more limited than the syllable onset. However, there is little discussion of the coda on the basis of large-scale linguistic data. Through this study, the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the syllable coda are revealed. First, the average number of consonant inventory for the coda is 8.5. Compared to the overall consonant inventory, approximately 44% of the consonants are realized in the coda. When the languages are classified according to the number of consonants in the coda, the languages with seven are the most common. Nasals at major places of articulation appear most frequently in the coda. In most languages, nasal consonants are included in the coda inventories. The majority of preferred coda inventories include the plosives and nasals as essential, with glottal or liquid consonants as optional.
