구어에서의 ‘이런/그런’의 인용표지적 쓰임 연구

이 연구에서는 구어에서의 인용표지 ‘이런/그런’의 실현 양상을 분석하고 이들의 담화 기능을 살펴보았다. 구어에서는 인용조사 및 인용명사 등을 사용하여 인용구문을 만들 뿐만 아니라 인용부분의 앞뒤를 억양단위와 휴지로 구분한 뒤 다음 발화와의 연결을 위해 ‘이런/그런’을 인용표지로 사용하는 경우도 빈번하다. 인용표지 ‘이런/그런’을 사용하여 정보의 실제성과 객관성을 확보하고, 화자의 주장을 약화하여 공손함을 드러내며 정확한 정보 전달의 부담감을 덜기도 한다. 또한 상대방이나 자신의 발화를 받아 발화를 마무리하는 등의 담화 전개에 활용하며, 실시간 발화 상황에서 담화가 끊어지지 않도록 하는 역할도 한다. 인용은 누군가의 말이나 생각을 구체적으로 제시하여 실제성이나 객관성을 강화하는 것이 주목적인데, 인용표지로 사용하는 ‘이런/그런’은 개별 지시가 아니라 범주 지시로서 정확한 표현을 대체하는 역할을 한다. 곧 인용이 ‘실제성과 구체성의 강화’를 가져온다면 인용표지 ‘이런/그런’의 사용은 ‘실제성과 구체성의 범주화’를 구현한다. 실제적이고 구체적인 발화를 범주 지시로 받아 인용하는 것은 실시간 담화 생산에서 자신이 인용하는 누군가의 말이나 생각의 정확성을 담보하기 어려운 화자에게는 발화 내용의 진위에 대한 책임감은 덜고 발화 내용의 구체성은 확보하는 전략이 된다.
Abstract
This study analyzes aspects of the realization of ilen and kulen, which are quotation markers in spoken Korean, and examines their discourse function. Speakers use a quotation particle or a quotation noun to make a quotation, and frequently use ilen and kulen as quotation markers to proceed with the utterance after dividing the former and the latter of the quoted part with intonation units and pauses. The quotation markers ilen and kulen are used to secure the reality and objectivity of the information and to lessen the burden of the correct delivery of information by weakening the assertiveness of speakers and showing politeness. In addition, speakers use quotation markers to follow other people’s or their own utterance and finish it when developing their discourse. They also play a role in continuing the discourse in real-time utterance situations. The main purpose of quoting is to propose specific words or thoughts of others to reinforce the reality or objectivity, and the quotation markers ilen and kulen work as a categorial reference, not an individual reference to replace the precise expression. If quoting brings about the “reinforcement of the reality and the concreteness,” the use of the quotation markers ilen and kulen embodies the “categorization of the reality and the concreteness.” In real-time discourse production, quoting the real and specific utterance with categorial reference can be helpful to the speakers who are not sure of the correctness of others’ words or thoughts that they are quoting. They have less responsibility for the authenticity of the utterance and secure the concreteness of the utterance at the same time.
