Abstract

It makes various modal expressions meaning of obligation, permission or prohibition by combining 「∼sitemo」 「∼sureba」 「∼suruto」 「∼sitewa」 「∼sinakereba」 「∼sinakutewa」, forms of condition and counter condition of verbs, and 「yoi」 「ikenai」 「naranai」. It is concentrated on 「sinakutewanaranai」 「surebayoi」 「sitewaikenai」 among these modalities in this article. To be specific, it checked the result of precedent study through examples from actual literature and analyzed usage situation of respective meaning combination and similarities and differences by biased meaning. Furthermore, it attempted to systemize methodically focusing on interrelationship and changing between meaning. The results were as follows. 1. It has been thought that 「sinakutewanaranai」 stands for obligation. However the analysis shows that <necessary condition>, has to be done for the realization of the object, is a basic meaning and the obligation is a subcategory in case the object is generalized. In addition, it could be classified <necessary condition>, result from the volitional choices, and <inevitability>, cause and effect not the result of the volitional choices, in terms of will of a subject(actant). In conclusion, it intrinsically indicates <necessary condition>, but it is established <inevitability> as the subcategory in qualified condition and those meaning is continuous. 2. The basic meaning of 「surebayoi」 sentence is for realization of the object or to emphasize the ways thought to be appropriate as a method for advisable condition. This object is includes concrete and clear things as well as an insensitiveness of speaker himself because it is vaguely embedded in the inside of speaker in advisable condition. Especially, 「∼surebayoi」 sentence could be classified as two cases that regards 「surebayoi」 as predicate and 「yoi」 only. Especially, 「∼surebayoi」 sentence could be classified as two cases that regards 「surebayoi」 as predicate and 「yoi」 only. In the latter case, it has strong effect of adjective, it could be confirmed that inflectional various method is established combining with 「noni」, 「mono-o」, 「∼jaarimasenka」 or 「∼janaino」 because of strong effect of adjective. In addition, coherence dynamics of 「sureba」 and 「yoi」 also generates differences of nuance between meanings 3. 「sitewaikenai」 sentence is classified into several meaning group as a basic meaning of <prohibition>and it could be confirmed that it shows various changing of nuance depending on context. However it has not been reached the stage of semantic relevance. However, it could be confirmed that there are various factors to determine respective meaning from <prihibition>, low modality, to <general fact>,strong modality, such as person of subject, relationship and situation between speaker and listener, characteristic of subject and whether there is a will or not.
