초록
This thesis studied how Korean mimetic words were translated into Chinese in the novel Daejangeum whose drama version, Jewel in the Palace, featured the royal cuisine of Korea’s Joseon dynasty and drew large audiences in Chinese communities. Mimetic words are readily found in many Korean literatures, which frequently use visual and tactile expressions and native Koreans describing characters’ mental state. I think that translation of mimetic words will be an interesting subject for those interested in literature translation because it is challenging to translate mimetic words, which are sensuous, lively, and implicative. This thesis mainly focused on mimetic words used in the novel Daejanggeum. It explored how the Korean mimetic words were translated into Chinese by organizing Chinese translation results and observing certain patterns. Considering that Chinese has a number of reiteration forms, this thesis classified the patterns by a syllable based on reiteration forms. As a result, Chinese translation of Korean mimetic words in the novel Daejanggeum was categorized into several patterns of AA, ABB, ABAB, AABB, A了AB, A里AB.
