아동문학 번역은 ‘교육적’이라는 분명한 목표 하에 조작이 용인되는 장르인 관계로 그 번역학적 중요도가 높은 장르이다. 이에 본 연구는 20세기 초 스페인 프랑코 독재시기를 중심으로 아동문학 번역과 검열을 조작의 관점에서 논의하고자 한다. 1939년부터 1975년까지 스페인은 국가와 종교에 의해 철저히 통제되었고, 그 통제 도구 중 하나가 바로 국가 차원의 검열이었다. 그 중에서도 프랑코 독재 체제의 검열이 가장 심혈을 기울인 부문은 아동 문학 부문이었다. 당시 독재 정권은 아동은 미래의 약속이자 독재 정권을 재생산하고 영속화하는 수단이라고 판단했다. 그렇기 때문에 종교적으로나 정치적으로 건강한 아동을 교육한다는 미명 하에 일반 문학 검열보다 더욱 엄격한 특별 관리를 실시했다. 한편 프랑코 정권은 민족국가의 가치를 수호하기 위해 모든 ‘외국의 것’을 배척하였기 때문에 번역은 특히 더 각별한 검열의 대상이 되었고, 그 중에서도 통제의 대상인 아동문학 번역에 더욱 깊이 관여하였다. 이에 본 연구는 번역학의 조작의 관점에서 프랑코 독재 체제 하의 스페인 아동문학 번역에 가해진 검열 방식과 그 영향을 중점적으로 논의하고자 한다. 이를 위해 2장에서는 선행 이론 연구를 살펴보고 조작학파와 검열에 관한 이론적 배경을 수립한다. 3장에서는 스페인 프랑코 독재 체제 하의 전반적인 문학 검열 제도를 고찰한다. 4장에서는 범위를 좁혀 스페인 프랑코 독채 체제 하의 아동 문학 번역 검열 사례를 정치, 종교, 행정 주체별로 분석하도록 하여 결론을 맺도록 한다.
Abstract
The research looks into the censorship on children’s literature under the Franco regime in Spain from 1939 to 1975 to identify why and what ideologies were at work in the process of rewriting and manipulating children’s literature. During the period, Spain was strictly controlled by the government and religion, and one of the measures to exercise such control was state censorship. In particular, the Franco regime paid the greatest attention to censoring children’s literature with the belief that it can take advantage of children to reproduce and perpetuate the regime, since children will shape the future of a society. Under the guise of providing children with politically correct and religious education, the regime imposed stricter censorship on children’s literature than on literature in general. In addition, to cherish the values as a national state, the Franco regime attempted to exclude “anything foreign”. This made translation a special subject for censorship, in particular, translated literature for children. In this paper, Chapter 2 studies the manipulation school’s theories on censorship, and Chapter 3 investigates the Franco regime’s overall censorship system. Chapter 4 analyzes cases of children’s literature censorship performed by political, religious and institutional entities under the Franco regime to draw a conclusion.
