『팥빙수의 전설』은 <팥죽할멈과 호랑이>를 패러디한 유아용 그림책, 『단독 취재! 어흥 회장의 비밀』은 초등 고학년 대상 패러디 동화이다. 본고는 두 작품이 원작으로부터 ‘차이 있는 반복’을 어떤 방식으로 구현했는지, 각 패러디스트가 얼마나 독자적인 담론을 생성하고 있는지 점검, 옛이야기 패러디로서 두 작품이 가지는 의의와 한계를 비평해 보았다. 『팥빙수의 전설』은 소재, 배경을 변주하여 현대 아동을 위한 흥미성을 강화했지만 할멈과 호랑이가 원작에서와 같이 선악으로 대비된 점은 한계로 지적될 수 있다. 또한, 조력자 캐릭터를 전면 삭제함으로써 원작의 주제 의식인 ‘약자 연대’라는 핵심 가치가 증발되기도 했다. 이는 작가가 원작에 대한 비판적 접근보다는 유아 그림책의 주 독자인 현대 아동의 구미에 맞도록 ‘흥미롭게 바꾼다’는 정도의 동기로 옛이야기 패러디에 임한 데에서 비롯된 것이라 보았다. 『단독 취재! 어흥 회장의 비밀』은 화자 교체, 인물 교체, 인물 성격의 변주를 적극적으로 감행하여 원작의 후속담을 창작한 스핀오프식 패러디이다. 시의성 높은 인물, 소재를 적극적으로 추가해 새롭게 구성한 이 작품은 옛이야기 속 문제를 현대 아동 독자가 마주한 현실의 문제와 교차시켜 원작에 대한 비판적 이해로서의 패러디를 절묘하게 실현했다. 단, 원작에 대한 작가의 강한 저항 의식이 또 다른 양상의 선악 대결구도를 재생산한 문제를 남겼다.
Abstract
"The Legend of Patbingsu" is a picture book for infants that parodied ‘Red Bean Porridge Grandma and Tiger’,, while "Exclusive Coverage! The Secret of Chairman Uh-heung" is a parody fairy tale intended for upper-grade elementary school students. This paper examines how the two works create "different repetition" of the original stories,, how each parody generates its own discourse, and critically analyzes the significance and limitations of these works as parodies of traditional stories. "The Legend of Patbingsu" reinforced interest among modern children by varying the subject matter and background. However, a limitation can be pointed out in that grandmother and tiger are still contrasted as good and evil, as in the original stories. In addition, by completely deleting the helper characters, the core value of 'solidarity of the weak', the central theme of the original stories, has evaporated. This can be attributed to the artist's attempt to parody old stories with the intention of 'interestingly changing' them to suit the taste of modern children, the primary audience for infant picture books, rather than taking a critical approach to the original stories. "Exclusive Coverage! The Secret of Chairman Uh-heung" is a spin-off parody that created a follow-up story of the original stories by actively changing speakers, characters, and their roles. This work, which was newly composed by incorporating timely characters and elements, effectively realizes the parody as a critical reinterpretation of the original stories by linking the issues in the old story with the real-world problems faced by modern child readers. However, the artist's strong sense of resistance to the original stories resulted in the issue of reproducing another form of the good-versus-evil confrontation.
