‘조선어’의 개념화에 대한 일고찰

이 글에서는 ‘조선어(朝鮮語)’의 개념을 논의하였다. 근대 이전 시기와 근대시기로 나누어 살펴보았다. 그 결과 근대 이전 시기의 조선어의 개념을 조선인들이 모국어로 사용하는 언어로 규정지을 수 있었다. 물론 외국인이 조선인들의 모국어를 쓰는 경우 또한 조선어로 파악할 수 있었다. 근대 시기의 조선어는 보다 복잡한 개념화 양상을 보였다. 먼저 언급할 것은근대 시기의 ‘조선어(朝鮮語)’는 국가로부터 공인화되었다는 점이다. 이는 ‘조선어(朝鮮語)’의 정치화를 의미하며, 갑오개혁을 전후로 발생했을 것으로 짐작된다. 다음으로 ‘조선어(朝鮮語)’의 이데올로기화를 지적할 수 있다. ‘조선어(朝鮮語)’에서 민족주의적인 성격을 발견할 수 있기 때문이다. 다만 ‘조선어(朝鮮語)’의 민족주의적인 성격은 일반적인 것은 아니어서, 특정한 계층의 생각이었던 것으로 파악된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to discuss the concept of ‘Joseon language(朝 鮮語)’. This study was to investigate it by dividing into premodern period and modern period. As a result, the concept of Joseon language in the premodern period could be defined as a language used by Joseon people as their native language. The case of foreigners’ speaking of the native language of Joseon people, of course, could also be identified as Joseon language. Joseon language during the modern period showed the aspect of more complex conceptualization. First of all, the ‘Joseon language(朝鮮語)’ in the modern period was institutionalized by the country. This means the politicization of the ‘Joseon language(朝鮮語)’, and it is presumed that it occurred before and after the Gabo Reform of 1894. Next, this study was to point out the ideologicalization of the ‘Joseon language(朝鮮語)’. The reason is that the nationalistic characteristic such as nationalism can be found in the ‘Joseon language( 朝鮮語)’. However, the nationalistic characteristic of ‘Joseon language (朝鮮語)’ is not common, so it is understood that it was the thoughts of a specific class.
