논설 기사 분석을 통한 관형절의 담화·화용적 기능 연구

한국어의 관형절은 대개 관형사형 어미에 의해 인식되는 형태적 특징을 보이며 통사적으로는 주어와 서술어를 포함하는 절의 구성을 이루며 후행하는 명사를 수식하는 기능을 갖고 있다. 관형절은 문장을 확대하는 방법 중 하나인 복합문을 구성하는 성분으로 기능하며 언어 능력이 발달해 감에 따라 사용 빈도도 높아진다. 이에 따라 한국어교육에서는 초급부터 고급에 걸쳐 지속적으로 교수되는, 매우 중요한 문법 항목이다. 이러한 중요도에 비해 그 교육 내용은 대체로 관형사형 어미로 의미되는 관형절의 시제와 상적인 특징과 서술어와 관형사형 어미의 결합 제약, 표제 명사와 관형절의 결합 제약 등을 가르쳐 형태적 오류를 양산하지 않도록 하는 데 집중되어 있다. 즉, 형태론적 제약과 오류 방지에 치중되어 있다 보니 보다 생성적인 교육은 이루어지지 않아 한국인의 언어생활에서는 관형절이 매우 빈번하게 쓰이는데도 불구하고 외국인 학습자에게서는 그에 준하는 출력을 기대하기 어려운 형편이다. 이에 본고에서는 학습자들에게 한국어 관형절의 사용을 언어 생성적인 차원에서 접근하여 한국인의 실제 언어생활에서 관형절은 어떤 쓰임으로 나타나는지를 연구하기 위해 개인적인 견해와 입장을 피력하는 글인 논설 기사 15편을 분석하여 한국어 관형절의 담화·화용적 기능을 지시적 차원과 맥락적 차원, 그리고 텍스트 구성적 차원에서 총 12가지 기능이 나타나는 것으로 정리하였다.
Abstract
The Korean adnominal clauses, which are recognized morphologically by the adnominal endings, can be assumed to have a structure of subject and predicate internally, and function as embedded sentences by modifying following noun. As such, adnominal clause is a grammatical form with a very important position that is constantly taught from beginner to advanced in Korean language education as a method of sentence expansion. Compared to its importance, the contents of the education mainly focus on the teaching of tense and aspectual features, the restrictions in combining predicates and the adnominal endings, and restrictions in combining adnominal clauses and heading nouns. As it is mainly focused on morphological restrictions and error prevention, it is difficult to expect a similar output from foreign learners to Koreans’ usage. In this study, a basic research on the pragmatic use of Korean adnominal clauses in discourse is conducted to develop educational contents and methods from a generative perspective. In order to study the pragmatic functions of adnominal clause in discourse, the 15 editorial articles which express a personal opinion were analyzed and 12 pragmatic functions were found in dimensions of reference, context and text construction.
