본 연구의 목표는 excepto의 문법범주를 규명하는 것이다. 대다수의 스페인어 학습자들은 excepto 뒤에 명사가 출현할 수 있다는 사실에 근거하여 이 요소를 전치사로 간주하고 있다. 또한, 대다수의 사전과 문법책에서도 excepto를 전치사로 분류하고 있다. 그러나 excepto 는 자신의 뒤에 1, 2인칭 단수 대명사가 출현할 경우 사격형이 아닌 주격형으로 실현된다는 점에서 전형적인 전치사들과 큰 차이점을 보여준다. 이런 이유 때문에 본고에서는 excepto는 전치사가 아니라고 주장한다. 한편, excepto를 등위접속사로 보는 분석은 excepto 뒤에 주격형이 출현하는 현상을 설명할 수 있다는 장점이 있지만 이 분석 역시 여러 가지 경험적 문제점에직면한다고 지적한다. 끝으로 본고에서는 excepto가 부가어절을 이끄는 보문소라고 주장하고그럴 경우 전치사 분석과 등위접속사 분석에서 설명치 못하는 문제점들을 해결할 수 있음을 보여준다.
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to determine the grammatical category of the exceptive marker ‘excepto’. Based on the fact that nouns can appear after this particle, many Korean learners of Spanish regard it as a preposition. In addition, in most Spanish dictionaries and grammar books, it is also classified as a preposition. However, ‘excepto’ is different from typical prepositions in that when a first or second singular personal pronoun appears after this particle, the pronoun is realized not as oblique Case form but as nominative Case form. For this reason we claim that the analysis of ‘excepto’ as a preposition is not adequate. Some scholars claim that ‘excepto’ is a coordinating conjunction. Although this analysis offers a way of accounting for the reason why the nominative Case form is required after ‘excepto’, we argue that it also faces a variety of problems. Finally, we suggest that ‘excepto’ is a complementizer that introduces an adjunct clause, and show that this analysis can solve the problems that the two previous analyses face.
