Abstract
Based on the OTT service, viewers worldwide can easily access video media anytime, anywhere. There are almost no restrictions on understanding other languages through dubbing and subtitle services. Moreover, even if one watches a video in his or her native language in noisy situations, there is no particular problem in viewing and understanding scenes through the subtitle service. This paper examined the characteristics of Media Spanish based on video dubbing data which is largely divided into Peninsular Spanish and Latin American Spanish. Although it may differ depending on the interpretation of the work and the relationship between the main characters, cases have been observed such as tú is preferably used in Peninsular Spanish and usted in Latin American Spanish in the same situation referring to the second person singular. In the same context, politeness is expressed more in Latin American Spanish, using the request type than the imperative type. In Media Latin American Spanish, the present perfect tense was used in the context of the telic aspect, together with the simple past tense. Sometimes, these two tenses were used in combination likewise. Furthermore, Peninsular Spanish included words unique to Spain, and Latin American Spanish included Mexican-specific vocabulary in some cases. In conclusion, to analyze the Media Spanish in video dubbing data, the realization of phonetic segmentation and intonation should be comprehensively considered. When the dubbing production studio is in Mexico, Mexican Spanish substantially affected Media Latin American Spanish.
