교과서 쓰기의 교훈: 고등학교 시민윤리 『국가발전과 시민의 자세』 텍스트 연구

이 글은 고등학교 시민윤리 교과서에서 분석 샘플로 추출한 결론의 <국가발전과 시민의 자세>를 분석한 것이다. 핑엘의 논거에 따라, 철자, 문법, 인쇄 상의 오류, 사실적 오류, 사실의 해석의 차이에서 오는 문제를 중심으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과는 실망스럽고 일부의 분석을 전체 교과서에 적용하는 비약이 있을지라도, 시민윤리 교과서가 시민윤리에 관한 교과서라고 진단하기는 어려울 것 같다. 이 같은 오류에서 우리가 얻을 수 있는 교훈은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교사는 교과서의 오류를 수정하고 보충해야 하고 학습에 유익한 내용을 선택할 수 있어야한다. 교사의 상상력과 창조성이 여기에 기여할 수 있을 것 같다. 둘째 교과서는 저자 자신, 교과서 검토자, 학생과 동료에 의해 세세하고 객관적인 비판과 수정이 끝없이 이어져야 한다. 지연 학연 혹은 혈연에 의거한 집필진의 구성은 이 같은 비판을 약화시킬 수 있다. 또한 학문적 우월자(스승, 선배)에 의한 교과서집필 주도도 극복되어야 한다. 셋째 독립적인 교과서 검토진은 교과서의 저자가 그 내용에 대하여 직접적인 책임이 없을지라도, 자신도 간접적 책임이 있다는 전제아래 참여해야 한다. 교과서 집필과정이 결함적이라면 좋은 교과서의 탄생은 불가능할 수 있다. 하지만 우리가 검토한 시민윤리 교과서의 오류는 현재 혹은 미래에 완전한 교과서를 쓰려는 필자에게 용기를 줄 수 있는 훈련자 역할을 할 수 있을 것 같다. 이 같은 결함과 오류를 최소화하고 완전한 교과서를 쓰려는 사람의 도전을 기대해 본다.
Abstract
This article examines the sample text of Civics for High School, mainly focusing on the text content analysis according to three criteria: grammatical errors, factual errors(accuracy) and errors in factual interpretations. The result is quite frustrating & depressing. Doubtful whether Civics is suitable for civic education. To make better Civics Textbook, my suggestions include (1) Teachers try to revise the errors and compensate for lack of accuracy in Civics classroom education; (2) Cooperation among thirty participants in writing Civics is essential to better Civic writing & Textbook. We should make efforts to be cooperative participants (3) Independent reviewers of Civic Writing must examine the process of textbook production as if they were responsible for the writing directly. The present flawed Civics would make a positive role in helping new textbook writers to prepare for better and pleasant Textbooks.
