Abstract
This article reports on a study that investigated the ways in which middle school students' doing science in the daily context through the journal writing. Over a period of 5 weeks, we gathered students' journal entries, interviews with students, questionnaires completed by the students. For the purpose of the study, we analyzed students' individual journal entries according to the topic, contexts of finding topic, the types of writing, the way of solving questions, and the types of evidences. The data indicated the followings. Firstly, the typical type of students' science journal was the type of investigating the reasons of specific phenomena related to a human body using information from the internet. Secondly, most students had difficulty in problem finding for writing science journal. Problem finding was recognized as most difficult thing during journal writing by 87.9% students. In addition, the analysis of the journal contents showed that 31.5% of students journals didn't constructed scientific problem beyond problem identification. Finally, students investigated into specific topic using knowledges from various fields of science.
