최근 들어 소득불균등에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이는 소득불균등 확대가 사회통합을 저해하며 장기적으로 경제성장을 저하시키는 부작용을 초래할 수 있기 때문이다. 소득불균등 확대 원인에 관한 기존의 연구를 보면 1인당 소득수준, 정부의 복지지출, 인플레이션, 무역개방, 기술진보 등이 소득불균등 변동과 밀접한 연관이 있는 것으로 나타나고 있다. 그러나 노동소득분배율, 인적자본의 형성, 자영업 및 비상근직 비중 등은 경제사회 구조와 관련하여 중요한 변수임에도 불구하고 소득불균등에 미치는 영향과 관련한 기존의 연구에서 실증분석이 이루어지지 않았다. 이러한 점을 감안하여 본고는 소득불균등에 대한 앞서 세 가지 요인의 영향을 국가별 패널자료를 사용하여 실증분석하였다. 아울러 본고는 기존의 연구와 달리 변수간 내생성 문제를 통제하여 엄밀한 결론을 도출하기 위해 GMM을 활용하여 추정하였다. 실증분석 결과 노동소득분배율과 교육수준의 상승은 소득불균등을 완화하며 자영업 및 비상근직 비중의 상승은 소득불균등을 악화시키는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
Recently, there has been growing concerns over income inequality because an expansion of income inequality may hinder social integration, and eventually reduce potential economic growth. Previous studies show that income inequality is related to factors such as per capita income, government social expenditure, inflation, trade openness and technological advances. Although labor income share, human capital formation, ratios of self-employed and temporary workers are important variables that can influence income inequality, no previous studies have yet carried out an empirical examination on such variables. This paper conducts an empirical analysis regarding the above mentioned three factors using country panel data. And this paper uses the system GMM method to draw conclusions by thoroughly addressing the endogenicity problem. The empirical analysis result shows that a rise in the labor income share or the level of education reduces income inequality while a rise in the ratio of self-employed or that of temporary workers increases income inequality.
