Abstract
We investigate the effect of the characteristics of earnings forecast on idiosyncratic volatility. Investment risk is well-known for being influenced by idiosyncratic volatility and market volatility. Generally, because that is determined by overall market circumstances, market volatility can not be controlled by investor. But idiosyncratic volatility can be reduced by adjusting investment portfolio. The reason why idiosyncratic volatility is a factor that is affected by firm specific characteristics. Therefore the importance of idiosyncratic volatility is increasing and lots of prior research suggest the results about idiosyncratic volatility. Our research focus on earnings forecast. When investor decide their investment, they focus on firm characteristics. Therefore the characteristics of earnings forecast can influence on idiosyncratic volatility. Because role of analyst is to provide firm information and reduce information asymmetry between company and investor. Our research results as follows. First, earnings forecast and standard deviation of earnings forecast have a positive relationship with idiosyncratic volatility. Second, the characteristics of analyst have a significant role to relationship between the earnings forecast(or standard deviation of earnings forecast) and idiosyncratic volatility.
