특수교육 연구에서 혼합방법 연구의 활성화를 위한 기초 담론: 패러다임 혼용의 문제

사회과학은 물론, 특수교육 연구에서도 현장의 다양성과 특이성을 반영하고 과학적?경험적 근거에 기반을 둔 연구 조건을 충족시키는 혼합방법 연구가 증가하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 패러다임의 성격 및 관점과 혼합방법 연구의 쟁점의 하나인 패러다임과 연구 방법론 간의 관계 등을 검토하여 혼합연구의 이론적 기본 토대를 확인하고, 특수교육 연구에서 혼합방법 연구 활성화를 위한 가능성을 탐색하고 제안을 하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 혼합방법 연구의 패러다임에 대한 관점과 논쟁, 패러다임을 보는 인간 사고의 방법을 살펴보고 특수교육 연구에서 혼합방법 연구의 필요성을 제기하였다. 본 논문의 연구 주제로 다음과 같이 세 가지를 선정하였다. 첫째, 패러다임의 다양한 수준의 관점과 논쟁의 역사를 살펴보고 혼합방법 연구의 주요 쟁점인 패러다임의 혼합에 대한 인간 사고의 방법을 살펴보았다. 둘째, 특수교육 연구에서 혼합방법 연구의 활용 가능성을 검토하기 위해, 특수교육에서 패러다임 관점을 제안하고 특수교육에서 혼합방법 연구의 기여점과 발전 방안을 논의하였다. 마지막으로 특수교육 연구의 발전을 위해 유연한 사고와 소통을 통한 공개적이고 지속적인 논의의 장의 필요성을 제안하였다. 본 연구는 그동안 상대적으로 소홀히 해온 철학적 기조에 대하여 조망할 수 있는 지식을 제공해 주어 연구자로 하여금 현장의 문제 접근에 대한 통찰력을 제공하며, 혼합방법 연구의 성격을 명확히 하고, 연구의 근간이 되는 패러다임의 관점을 구조화하여 특수교육 연구에 활용될 혼합방법 연구의 이론적 토대를 공고히 할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to investigate possible ways of integration of paradigm for sound ground of the mixed methods research and to promote its utilization for special education research to respond to the diversity and uniqueness of the field and to satisfy the requirement of science based research. For the purpose the following major issues were discussed. First, four paradigm perspectives and paradigm disputes have been reviewed with vision of adaptation and flexibility. Second, reviewing overview and disputable issues in mixed methods research, contributions of the mixed methods research to promote special education research have been discussed. And finally it is suggested that more attentions and efforts with open discussion should be put into developing strong ground of the mixed methods
