Abstract
The purpose of the study is to compare changes in an autonomic nervous system and blood pressure by measuring the pre and post autonomic nerve activity and blood pressure of older women's with hypertension experiencing training and non-training tai chi chuan. By using Nerve Express2.2(HEART RHYTHM INSTRUMENTS, INC. USA), we conducted the Ortho Test to measure the autonomic nervous system. The results were as follows. Changes in the low frequency/high frequency ratio, representing the SN tension level, were different in pre-and post-tai chi chuan training. After the training, tai chi chuan supine and upright decreased significantly(p<.001). The HF changes, representing the tension level of the PSN system, were different in pre- and post- tai chi chuan training. After the tai chi chuan training, supine and upright increased significantly(p<.05). Systolic pressure(p<.01) and diastolic pressure(p<.001) were significantly decreased after the treatments as well. No changes were found in supine and upright positions for non tai chi chuan training. In conclusion, automatic nerve activity and blood pressure was affected positively by tai chi chuan training because of the decrease in SN tension and increase in PSN tension and decrease in blood pressure. Therefore, tai chi chuan training is an appropriate exercise to improve cardiac function.
