이사(李斯)〈 간축객서(諫逐客書)〉의 수사 전략 분석

본 연구는 중국 고대 산문의 명문 중 하나로 손꼽히는 이사(李斯) 「간축객서(諫逐客書)」의 수사 전략을 분석한 것으로, 「간축객서」는 본래 진나라의 객경 이사가 축객령을 듣고 그에 대한 간언으로 썼다고 알려져 있지만 본 연구는 이사가 「간축객서」를 왜 썼을까 라는 본질적 질문에서 시작하여 고찰해 보았다. 그 결과 「간축객서」는 표면적으로는 축객령의 취소를 내용으로 하고 있지만 그 이면에는 진왕을 도와 천하를 제패함으로써 통일 제국의 일인지하 만인지상이 되겠다는 목표와 야심을 감지할 수 있었으며, 이사의 고심과 수사 전략을 통해 완성되었을 것으로 추정하였다. 「간축객서」의 수사 전략은 구체적으로, 진나라의 발전을 가져온 빈객의 공로로써 축객의 부당함을 증명한 예증의 수법과, 생산지를 가리지 않는 왕실 보물의 소유와 출신지를 가리는 인재 등용의 대조, 논리적 내용과 화려한 형식의 대조, 왕의 도리를 대자연의 이치에 빗댄 비유, 축객령에 반대하는 의견을 펼친 반박 등의 수법을 사용한 것인데, 이러한 수사 전략을 통해 이사는 진왕을 공감시키고 주제를 강조하며 설득하여 선동했다. 그리고 마침내 축객령이 취소되고 관직에 복직되어 결국 통일 진나라의 승상에 올라 「간축객서」를 작성한 목적을 실현한다. 요컨대, 본 연구는 「간축객서」의 작성 의도와 역사적 의미를 수사학(修辭學)적 각도에서 재해석함으로써 고대 중국의 문언 작품과 역사적 사실에 새로운 관점을 부여해보았으며, 향후 중국 고대 문언 작품에 대해 이러한 수사학적 고찰을 지속함으로써 중국 고대 사회와 작품에 대해 재이해의 여지를 찾는 동시에 고대 중국의 수사(修辭) 양상을 살펴보아 중국 수사의 전통을 이해하고 오늘에 반영하고자 한다.
Abstract
This study analyzes the rhetorical strategy of Li Si(李斯) “Jianzhukeshu(諫 逐客書)”, the leading scholar of ancient Chinese prose. It is known that “Jianzhukeshu (諫逐客書)” was originally written as a remonstrance to the Emperor of the Qin (秦) Dynasty, however I started with the essential question of why the director wrote “Jianzhukeshu (諫逐客書)”. As a result, “Jianzhukeshu (諫逐客書)”, on the surface, cancels the foreigner’s command, but on the back of it, it was able to sense the ambition to gather a thousand people under one person in a unified empire. It is assumed that it has been completed through diligence and rhetorical strategy. Specifically, the rhetorical strategy of the “Jianzhukeshu (諫逐客書)” is based on the technique of demonstrating unfairness to foreigners using the merit of the foreigner who brought about the development of Qin (秦), while contrasting the possession of the royal treasures and the talent covering the hometown, and between the content and the colorful form. It also includes a comparison of the king's duty with Mother Nature, and a refutation of the opposing views against the ritual commander, etc.
