『장자』 「소요유」의 수사학적 고찰-착상과 배열을 중심으로-

『장자(莊子)』의 첫 편 「소요유(逍遙遊)」는 장자가 추구하는 깨달음의 세계를 집약한 것이다. 그러나 『장자』에는 ‘소요유’의 의미에 대한 구체적인 설명이 없을 뿐만 아니라 「소요유」편 또한 우언으로 나열되어 있어서 그 속에서 장자 사상의 요지를 파악하기란 쉽지 않다. 이에 본고에서는 「소요유」편에 대해 수사학의 착상과 배열의 개념을 적용하여 어떤 논거를 어떻게 전개하는지를 알아보고, 이를 통해 소요유의 의미를 이해하고자 한다. 「소요유」편은 첫 부분에서 거대한 물고기 곤이 변화한 붕새의 비상을 통해 절대 자유의 세계를 형상화했다. 본고에서는 태풍을 타고 하늘로 솟구친 후 북쪽 바다에서 남쪽 바다로 날아가는 거대한 붕새의 비상을 분석하였고, 이를 통해 「소요유」에서 말하는 절대 자유가 세속의 고정관념을 깬 정신적인 확장, 즉 초월임을 밝혔다. 또, 장자는 우언을 통해 절대 자유의 경지에 이른 성인의 모습을 구체적으로 제시하였다. 즉 절대 자유의 깨달음을 얻은 성인은 자아의식이 완전히 소멸하여 자연과 하나가 된 사람이다. 그렇다면 절대 자유의 경지에 이르기 위한 인식 확장과 자아의 초월 방법은, 가죽나무에 대해 혜시와 장자가 대화를 나누는 우언을 통해 알 수 있듯이 사고를 전환함으로써 쓸모없음의 큰 쓸모를 깨닫는 것이다.
Abstract
The first chapter of Zhuangzi, “Xiaoyaoyou (逍遙遊),” is a summary of the world of enlightenment that Zhuangzi pursues. This paper aims to understand the meaning of Xiaoyaoyou by applying the concepts of invention and arrangement in rhetoric. In the first part of the chapter of “Xiaoyaoyou,” the world of absolute freedom is depicted through the flight of the giant fish Kun, which has transformed into the bird Peng. This paper analyzes the flight of the giant bird Peng flying from the northern sea to the southern sea, and through this, reveals that the absolute freedom spoken of in “Xiaoyaoyou” is a spiritual expansion that breaks away from worldly stereotypes, that is, transcendence. In addition, Zhuangzi specifically presents the appearance of a saint who has reached the realm of absolute freedom through fables. In other words, a saint who has attained the enlightenment of absolute freedom is a person whose self-consciousness has completely disappeared and who has become one with nature. If so, the way to expand awareness and transcend the self to reach the state of absolute freedom is to realize the great usefulness of uselessness by changing one's thinking, as can be seen in the fable in which Hui Shi and Zhuangzi talk about the leather tree.
