<莊子> 비유법에 대한 철학적 고찰

이 논문은 데리다의 해체주의 이론과 장자(BC. 369-289?) 철학의 문학적 전략(은유와 비유법)의 유사성에 주목하여 장자가 사용한 독특한 언어 표현인 과장법, 우언, 중언, 치언 등 다양한 비유법의 철학적 함의를 고찰하였다. 『莊子』 텍스트 속에 표현된 다양한 과장과 은유의 수사법들은 장자가 우주를 무의미, 무목적, 무중심의 사유로 해명해내야 한다는 간접화법의 언설이라고 주장하고자 한다. 또한 장자는 이런 사유에서 한 걸음 더 나아가 ‘천천히 걸으면서 노는 것(逍遙遊)’을 지향하는 놀이의 철학을 제시한 사상가임을 밝히고자 하였다. 논자는 이 논문을 통해 첫째, 장자는 인간 대신 자연을 중심으로 생각하고 자연을 추구해야할 목적과 의미로 제시한 것이 아니라, 오히려 우주에서 어떤 것도 중심으로 설정되어서는 안 된다는 ‘무중심적 사유’를 제시하고 있음을 구명하였다. 둘째, 「소요유(逍遙遊)」 편에 등장하는 물고기 곤(鯤), 붕새(鵬) 등의 한자 표현에 대한 문자학적 해독을 통해 장자가 제시하는 인간과 세계에 대한 이해방법으로 ‘중심의 해체’를 지향함을 설명하였다. 셋째, 의미와 목적, 그리고 중심을 추구하지 않는 장자의 철학적 의도들은 언어 표현에 있어서 주어(話者)의 의미가 배제된 다양한 수사법 즉, 우언, 중언, 치언 등 우회적 전략과 연계되어 있음을 고찰하였다. 넷째, 장자 사유의 근저에는 주어 또는 자아(Self), 중심과 의미, 목적 등을 거부하는 놀이와 자유의 철학이 자리 잡고 있음을 논증하였다. 현실사회에서 인간이 추구할 의미와 목적이 엄연히 존재하며, 인간은 그것들을 통해 삶의 지혜를 얻어야 한다고 생각하는 사고방식에 익숙한 사람은 이 글에서 해명하는 장자의 무중심의 사유와 놀이의 철학에 대해 이해하기 어려울지 모른다. 물론 이 논문에서도 논자의 주장만 옳고 기존의 이해는 틀렸다고 서술하지 않았다. 이를 계기로 앞으로 장자의 사유를 대상으로 한 다양한 방법에 의한 해독이 연구가 시도되기를 기대한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to show that there are textual similarities between Chuang Tzu(莊子) and Jacques Derrida. We can get the answer and get a new insight into Taoist philosophy by way of Derrida's deconstructive theory. With our discussion of the aspects of Tao from Chuang Tzu and Derrida's ‘differance’, ‘trace’ and ‘play’, we will establish a philosophy affinity between Taoist Chuang Tzu and Derrida's deconstructive thinking. Chuang Tzu like Derrida deconstructs all kinds of traditional and metaphysical thoughts which can be termed dualistic system of thinking. Derrida and Chuang Tzu each present a challenge against traditional or conventional thought, the common denominator of which can be termed dualistic system of thinking. So Derrida and Chuang Tzu use many ways to overcome ‘the metaphysical dualistic thinking’: the extensive use of metaphor and Allegory, the frequent employment of paradox and play-on-word. With the pervasive use of metaphor and Allegory, Chuang Tzu had produced a plural of ‘playful’ style and full of the de-centering free play of differance and Tao. I call this philosophical tendency as ‘non-centered thinking’ or ‘philosophy of freedom and play’ in Chuang Tzu’s philosophy. Chuang Tzu like Derrida suggests that the logic of cohabitation and coexistence recognizes and affirms differences between opposites. In other words, their ways of thinking challenge the value system that suggests a single truth, and propose that all human values necessarily carry half-values. Finally, Chuang Tzu poses a deconstructive critique of the excessive values and excessive meanings in traditional metaphysics. Their suggestions provide us in the transition towards the 21st century with a fresh perspective to look differently at human beings and this world we live in/with the others.
