Abstract
By re-examining Aristotle's topos classification of Topics and Rhetoric by his category theory and predicate, this article argues that both works are based in common on Aristotle's category theory and they operate with their own system in a unique area distinguished from Analytics and have completeness in themselves. Topics and Rhetoric commonly emphasize topos in the design of arguments, which deal with them under the composition of category theory based on the premise of substance and property. Topics classifies topoi according to four types of predicables divided according to the relationship between predicate and subject. - Horos / Idion / Genus / Sumbebekos – Here, horos · genos correspond to substance, and idion · sumbebekos correspond to property. On the other hand, Rhetoric classifies topoi according to the scope of use, considering the characteristics of rhetorical reasoning described there, topoi of Rhetoric converge to be about sumbebekos. While Topics deals with the entire problem of four predicables evenly extending in substance and property, Rhetoric focuses on the problem of sumbebekos. This supports that the two works are designed based on the ontology of substance and property and are designed to effectively discover ways to argue in discussions and speeches. Topics and Rhetoric are not incomplete Analytics. The use of endoxa and the probability of reasoning are not because the reasoning of Topics and Rhetoric is incomplete, but because they take into account the nature of the problems they deal with. Topics and Rhetoric are independent and complete systems designed to be sufficient to achieve practical purposes in their own areas, following their own systems, faithfully following Aristotle's ontology.
