Abstract
This study investigates how South Koreans perceive two forms of capital mobility: the inflow of foreign capital and the outflow of domestic capital. It further examines how these attitudes are shaped by individuals’ socioeconomic positions, including income level, occupational sector, and employment status. The findings reveal that attitudes toward foreign capital inflows vary significantly by occupation and employment type, with non-regular, low-skilled workers expressing more negative views. In contrast, attitudes toward the outflow of domestic capital are primarily influenced by economic status alone. These results suggest that perceptions of economic globalization—specifically capital mobility—are shaped less by ideology or identity and more by material interests and structural position. The study highlights that the attitudinal gap between the winners and losers of globalization has tangible implications for public acceptance of globalization-related policies, pointing to the need for institutional compensation through labor market protections and welfare provisions for those disadvantaged by globalization.
