본 연구의 목적은 설교자가 설교 형식을 결정하는 데에 영향을 끼치는 요인들을 밝히는 것이다. 설교자가 설교를 준비할 때는 성경 본문에서부터 오늘의 청중을 향한 적실성 있는 메시지를 준비해야 함과 더불어 그 메시지를 청중에게 효과적으로 전달하기 위해 그것을 적절하게 담아낼 수 있는 설교 형식도 준비해야 한다. 일반적으로 전통적 설교학은 연역적 설교를 유일한 표준적인 형식으로 간주해온 경향이 있다. 그러나 신설교학은 연역적 설교를 권위주의적이요 청중을 배려하지 않는 설교요 청중에게 들리지 않는 설교로 간주하면서, 보다 청중을 배려하고 들리는 설교 형식들을 개발해왔다. 그에 따라 설교자들 또한 전통적인 연역적 설교의 울타리를 벗어나 다양한 설교 형식들에 관심을 기울이기 시작했다. 설교 형식은 설교 내용과 긴밀한 관련을 맺고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 형식이 내용의 본질적 요소라는 신설교학의 주장은 형식에 대한 과대평가이다. 형식의 본질적 기능은 내용의 효과적인 전달과 그에 대한 청중의 효과적인 청취이다. 신설교학의 영향으로 말미암아 다양한 설교 형식들이 고안되었다. 필자는 그 중에서 우리에게 익숙한 네 가지 설교 형식들, 곧 전통적인 연역적 설교, 귀납적 설교, 내러티브 설교, 이야기 설교를 살펴보았다. 이러한 각 형식들은 나름대로의 장점들과 단점들이 공존한다. 따라서 완벽한 형식이란 존재하지 않으며, 어떤 특정한 형식만이 유일하게 표준적인 형식이라고 할 수도 없다. 설교자는 설교를 준비할 때마다 가장 적합한 형식을 선택할 수 있다. 설교자가 형식을 결정할 때 영향을 주는 요인들로는 본문의 장르와 형식, 설교 내용과 목적, 청중, 그리고 설교자 자신 등이 있다. 그러므로 설교자는 이런 요인들을 충분히 고려하는 가운데 자신의 설교에 가장 알맞은 형식을 선택해야 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that affect the preacher's decision of sermon form. As the preacher prepares his sermon, he has to prepare not only relevant message from the Bible text for the audience of the day, but also sermon form which can appropriately contain the message in order to communicate it them effectively. In general, the traditional homiletic has tended to regard deductive sermon as the only standard form. However, the new homiletic has developed sermon forms that are more considerate toward audience and audible, considering deductive sermon as an authoritarian, non-audience-considerate sermon and an inaudible sermon. As a result, preachers also began to pay attention to various sermon forms out of the traditional deductive sermon. Sermon form is closely related to the sermon contents. Nevertheless, the argument of the new homiletic that the form is an essential element of the contents is an overestimation of the form. The essential functions of sermon form are the effective transmission of contents and the effective listening of audience to it. Various sermon forms have been devised due to the influence of the new homiletic. I researched into four sermon forms that are familiar to us, the traditional deductive sermon, inductive sermon, narrative sermon, and story sermon. Each of these forms has its strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, there is no perfect form, and it cannot be said that a certain form is the only standard form. The preacher can choose the most appropriate form each time he prepares sermons. Factors that influence the preacher's decision to sermon form are the genre and form of the Bible text, the contents and purpose of the sermon, audience, and preacher himself. Thus, the preacher should choose the most appropriate form for his sermon, considering these factors fully.
