Abstract
There are some limitations in the empirical studies concerned with corruption index. The studies face some difficulties in defining and operationalizing the concept of corruption. There are lots of ways to define and measure the concept even if they have some strengths and weaknesses. So we have to choose the most adequate concept definition and operationalization. In order to solve the limitations, we have to think about two points. One is how to define and operationalize 'corruption' as a general concept or a cultural(regional) concept. The other is what kinds of statistical techniques―conducting survey research or regression analysis with corruption index―to choose for testing the hypotheses concerned with corruption. The success and failure of the empirical work relating to corruption depends upon how to select concept definition―measurement and statistical techniques adequate to test the established hypotheses.
