열하일기에 나타난 중국인 형상화와 쓰기 전략-곡정 왕민호를 중심으로-

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to examine the aspects of embodying Chinese people in Yeolha's Diary, and to understand YeonAm's writing strategies and ideas more deeply through conversations with YeonAm and Gokjeong, Wang Minho. Among the Chinese appearing in the Diary, there are many human beings intentionally shaped by YeonAm. Among them, Gokjeong is a person created as the prototype of an scholar of resenting sorrowfully, and a person who projects much of Yeon-Am's ego. The shape of Gokjeong makes readers feel pity and builds a sense of intimacy, so that they can approach Gokjeong without repulsion. Among the written talks of Yeon-Am and Gokjeong, I paid attention to two main topics. In the written talks about filial duty and virtuous woman, YeonAm and Gokjeong continued their conversation by responding to each other while negatively recognizing the customs of filial duty and virtuous woman. It was difficult for YeonAm to directly criticize the harmful effects in a trend that took the ethics of filial duty and virtuous woman for granted. Thus, YeonAm used Gokjeong's voice to criticize the evils of making the tradition of the filial duty and virtuous woman. On the other hand, the conversations about Confucianism and loyalty developed in opposite directions. YeonAm's voice that loyalty is fixed was not an honest opinion. As a result of examining the two books of ‘Baek-Yi Theory 伯夷論’ and the articles related to Baek-Yi in the ‘Yeolha Diary 熱河日記’ on July 27th, YeonAm thought that loyalty is not fixed, it is a relative value that changes according to the times and circumstances. Although YeonAm took the form of refusing Gokjeong's words, in reality, Gokjeong's words were YeonAm's true intentions. The conversation between the two took the method of revealing the author's truth through the language of Gokjeong, who is the other person, while YeonAm hides himself. By continuously examining various strategies for shaping human beings appearing in Yeolha's Diary, YeonAm's attitude toward humans will be comprehensively summarized.
