초록
Structure repetition effect is the phenomenon in which a structure is repeated in the next utterance when speakers produce sentences. This effect has been found in language production of not only first language (L1) speakers of several languages such as English, Dutch, German, and Spanish but also second language (L2) utterances of bilinguals or L2 learners. Moreover, the potential influences on structure repetition have been explored such as lexical repetition, semantic, and phonological factors. The current study investigated the effect of structure repetition in language production of English L2 speakers of Korean and the potential influence of proficiency. The primary experimental paradigm involved repeating aloud an auditory stimulus and describing events on the picture. To minimize participants’ attention on the language production, recognition tasks appeared right after the two primary tasks. The results found significant priming effects on both the transitive and dative alternative structures; however, proficiency effect was not observed.
Abstract
Structure repetition effect is the phenomenon in which a structure is repeated in the next utterance when speakers produce sentences.
