A perjury in law is related to a lie. The definition of a lie includes philosophical or psychological concepts such as 'intention' beyond the concepts of semantics and pragmatics.Nonetheless, it is assumed that the linguistic analysis about a lie is the starting point of understanding because a lie is an utterance. In this paper, we try to analyze perjury from the viewpoint of semantics. First, we compare the view of perjury with the definition of lie in linguistics. As a result, we see that the meaning of 'false statement' is determined by the fact that the contents of the statement are consistent with facts in the real world. Second, we provide the semantic analysis on the types of statements that may appear in a courtroom. Especially, we must be careful about the judgement of truth-value if the statement contains cognitive predicates such as know and believe which are related to presupposition.
