Abstract
This research investigates how Beckett's later plays embody deconstructive thought, exploring concepts like individuality, subjectivity, knowledge, and power. It begins by examining the influence of 20th-century existentialist and absurdist ideas on Beckett's literary world. It then analyzes the stylistic elements in Beckett's writing shaped by these ideas. The study utilizes concepts from post-structuralist thinkers to comprehend the fragmented narratives, disjointed language, fragmented subjects, and extreme imagery in Beckett's later plays. Notably, Beckett's later plays can be understood through ideas like Nietzsche's notion of superhuman regression, Fuchs's exploration of the absence of subject and stage de-bordering, and Foucault's theory of power and knowledge de-territorialization. While it may appear that Beckett's later plays only navigate between formal minimalism and thematic contemplations of life's absurdity, they actually encompass a diverse range of rhetorical discourse. Understanding the complex geometric meanings in Beckett's later plays necessitates a deconstructive perspective that challenges conventional notions. Thus, this study cautions against oversimplification, urging contemporary audiences to critically engage with the intricacies of deconstructed theater.
