본 연구는 능력이 상이한 경기자들이 순차적으로 자신의 의존선호를 선택하는 경합에서, (1) 각 경기자가 선택하는 상호의존선호를 유도하고, (2) 능력이 높은 경기자와 낮은 경기자 중에서 누가 먼저 상호의존선호를 선택하는 것이 경기자들의 기대보수를 높이는지에 대해 분석한다. 본 연구의 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 낮은 능력을 지닌 경기자가 선도자일 때, 그는 시기적 선호를, 높은 능력을 지닌 경기자가 선도자일 때, 그는 이타적 선호를 선택할 수 있다. 이때, 추종자는 능력과 상관없이 이기적 상호의존선호를 선택한다. 둘째, 높은 능력을 지닌 선도자가 이타적 선호를 선택하는 경우에 각 경기자의 기대보수가 가장 높다.
Abstract
We consider a contest in which two players whose contest abilities are asymmetric compete one another to win a prize with sequential interdependent preferences. In this model, (1) we examine the equilibrium interdependent preferences for the players, and (2) we analyze how players’ expected payoffs are affected by who is a leader. We show that the leader whose contest ability is lower than the follower may choose envy as an interdependent preference; and the leader whose contest ability is higher than the follower chooses altruism. At the same time, the follower chooses self-interest. Then we show that players’ expected payoffs are the highest where the leader who has the higher ability and has the altruism.
