본 연구는 최근 선진국을 중심을 진전되고 있는 제4차 산업혁명의 결과로 나타나고 있는 사회경제적 문제점에 대한 협동조합섹터의 대응을 분석하였다. 특히 플랫폼기업의 급성장과 그 결과인 일자리의 질 저하, 양극화의 심화, 디지털 자산에 대한 소유권의 집중 등의 부정적인 결과에 대응하기 위한 플랫폼 협동조합 및 프리랜서협동조합의 등장과 확산을 분석하였다. 그리고 협동조합섹터가 블록체인기술을 활용하여 협동조합의 저변을 넓히고 동시에 디지털분야에서 협동조합 및 커먼즈의 개념을 도입하는 사례가 늘어나고 있다는 점에서 협동조합 4.0 시대의 도래라고 할 수 있다는 점을 주장하였다.
Abstract
This paper examines the cooperative sector’s response to a series of issues that have resulted from the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution, which has recently advanced in European and North American countries. In particular, the paper analyzes the emergence of platform cooperatives and freelancer cooperatives, which have tackled the deteriorating status of on-demand workers, the monopolized power of platform firms over digital assets, and polarized income and wealth, which have been exacerbated by the rapid growth of platform firms. The paper concludes with the argument that the cooperative sector should closely work with the digital democracy movement, which has recently turned its attention to the value of cooperatives and commons to respond to the Age of Cooperatives 4.0.
