한국 어린이 철학교육의 발전 방안 모색

본 연구는 한국사회에서 진행되어 온 어린이 철학교육을 반성하고 비판적으로 검토하여 발전방안을 모색하는데 연구의 목적을 두었다. 한국 어린이 철학교육의 모델이 되고 있는 것은 Lipman의 ‘어린이를 위한 철학교육’이며, Lipman의 어린이 철학교육은 최근 전세계적으로 보편화되고 있는 어린이 철학교육의 상징으로 성장하였다. Lipman의 어린이 철학교육과 달리 한국 어린이 철학교육의 성장은 크게 뚜렷하지 못하다. 개념이나 논리 중심의 IAPC 교재를 번역하여 소개하는 수준에 머물렀고, 어린이들의 적극적 참여를 유도할 수 있는 방법론 개발에 실패했기 때문으로 파악된다. 한국 어린이 철학교육의 활성화를 위해서는 교재가 개념 중심에서 문제 중심으로, 논리 중심에서 맥락 중심으로 그리고 어린이들의 삶과 관련된 내용으로 변화되어야 한다. 또한 PBL이나 Action Learning 등 어린이들의 적극적 참여를 유도할 수 있는 방법적 보완이 필요하다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to reflect, examine critically and facilitate philosophy for children in Korea. The philosophy for children in Korea is affilitated with the IAPC(Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children) which has been largely responsible for the proliferation of philosophy for children programs in schools and other settings around the world. Although the program in Korea often collaborates with the IAPC, we couldn't find any substantial evidence that it will succeed. The curriculum and teaching method of the IAPC doesn't quite fit students in Korea, not because of the lack of interest on the part of the students but because of the translations which reflect foreign cultural values and so don't arouse the students' interests. To facilitate philosophy for children in Korea, the curriculum was focussed on problems which students faced instead of philosophical concepts. It should deal with children's stories, interests and lives, too. New methods such as PBL(problem based learning) or Action Learning are to be added for children to actively participate in a philosophy program. The studies of philosophy for children are to be done much more systematically, and a research society should be founded for researchers who are mainly interested in philosophy for children in Korea.
