부모결연프로그램에 참가한 정신지체학생 어머니들의 경험에 관한 질적 연구

본 연구는 부모결연프로그램에 참가한 정신지체 특수학교 어머니들의 경험에 대해 심도 있게 조사하여, 부모결연프로그램의 효과를 질적으로 평가하기 위해 실시되었다. 부모결연프로그램에 참가한 어머니 18명에 대한 포커스그룹을 통해 수집된 자료를 질적 분석한 결과 부모결연프로그램을 통해 지원을 제공받은 신입생 어머니 9명에게서 4개의 주제(themes)가 도출되었고, 지원을 제공한 고등부 어머니 9명에게서 5개의 주제가 도출되었다. 결과를 통합적으로 기술하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 지원을 제공받은 어머니들은 결연활동을 통해 정서적 지원과 구체적인 양육관련 정보를 얻을 수 있었다. 둘째, 지원을 제공한 어머니들도 결연활동을 통해 보람을 얻고 성숙의 기회를 얻는 긍정적인 경험을 하였다. 셋째, 결연활동에 있어서 결연 짝 선정의 중요성을 알 수 있었다. 넷째, 장애자녀 부모들 간의 연대의 필요성을 확인하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the experiences of the mothers who participated in the Parent-to-Parent Program through a qualitative inquiry. Eighteen mothers of children with mental retardation participated in this qualitative study. The focus group was used as a main data collection method. From the qualitative analyses, four themes emerged from the new parents' focus groups and five themes emerged from the veteran parents. Those who were supported experienced emotional supports and gained information regarding parenting. Those who provided support also experienced emotional supports and felt rewarded. Discussions and the implications for family support practices were provided.
