Major Problems over Growth Stage of Female-Owned Small Business

초록

본 논문은 여성기업이 직면하는 주요 애로요인을 탐색하고 성장단계별로 이들 요인들 간에 차이가 있는지를 분석하였다. 자료는 미국여성경영자합회(NAWBO) 회원 800명을 대상으로 하였으며, 분석을 위하여 창업자에 따라 기회창업자와 기술창업자로 분류하고, 기업의 성장단계를 창업기, 초기성장기, 후기성장기, 성숙기로 구분하였다. 분석결과, 창업자의 유형에 따라 직면하게 되는 주요 애로요인이 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 창업기에서 성숙기로 이동함에 따라 발생하게 되는 애로요인에도 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구의 시사점은 여성기업의 성장단계에 따른 문제해결과정에서 어떤 노력이 필요한지를 예측하게 하고 준비하는 지침이 될 수 있다. 즉, 여성경영자는 기업을 성공적으로 이끌기 위해 각 성장단계에 따라 효율적이고 적절한 경영/관리적 예방과 조치를 취해야 한다는 것이다.

Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the types of problems women owned businesses face and the relative significance of these problems. The 800 U.S. women business owners were drawn at random from the membership directory of NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners). This paper analyzed the differences of major problems to each growth stage (that is, start-up, early growth, later growth and maturity stage) and in terms of the type of entrepreneur (that is, general/opportunistic or technical/craftsman) in US women owned businesses. The findings indicated there were differences in the major problems faced across the growth stages as they move from the start up to the maturity stage and by entrepreneur type.
