Abstract

The purpose of this study was intended to analyze studies that used single-subject research among preceding studies related to the social interactions of children with autistic disorders conducted from 1994 through 2009 in order to present the trend of the studies and future study tasks. To this end, 28 papers that met the selection criteria were selected from 244 papers published on domestic/foreign scientific journals as final subjects of analyses. Based on the results of the analyses, first, many studies were conducted on subjects at ages for kindergarten or elementary school lives and the number of studies on three subjects was the largest. The studies were mostly conducted on boy students rather than on girl students and there was no concrete criterion for selections of subjects in most of the cases. Second, frequently used forms of study designs were direct observation methods, interval recording methods and multiple baseline designs and the number of times of repetition, reliability and maintenance were substantially measured in many studies while generalization and social validity were not measured in most of the studies. Third, child-specific interventions were the most frequently used. Child-specific interventions are customized interventions conducted for child-specific social needs which are used to increase the number of times, skills and quality of social interactions and their examples include social stories, social skill training and self-teaching. Based on these result, the diversification of subjects and design methods and fidelity of intervention and the measurement of social validity should be considered later.
