Abstract

This paper aims to study science and gender, the two most crucial concepts in the feminist STS (science and technology studies) mainly by comparing E.F. Keller, S. Harding, and D.J. Haraway. Keller is well said to create the potentiality of feminist STS to be an individual sector by analyzing science and gender in one frame in earnest. However, her gender concept still only stayed on ideology, individual-focused identity, and criticism over “bad science.” Harding, on the contrary, recognized the multi-aspects of gender, settling down the traditional confusions around the gender discussion, and focused on “science as usual” rather than bad science for analysis, clearing off the boundary among what to analyze in the feminist STS. However, as her efforts to find out a common ground to hold epistemological privilege and her attempts to get out of focusing on the Western/middle class/white women and to take differences among women into consideration could not bring a theological success, her elaboration dropped into a biological difference-based “women’s standpoint” in the later. D.J. Haraway upgraded the feminist STS into another quality of dimension again as she presented a partial perspective privilege of the “situated knowledge.” Moreover, she made it possible to make a dynamic analysis of science and gender by regarding gender as a constantly- in-the-making variable rather than a fixed given one.
