Abstract
With the advent of so-called ‘second wave’ feminism, women’s sexualityand reproduction were emerged as political and ethical issues vital to women’shealthy life. The early women’s health movements were motivated by a ferventdesire of lay women to control their sexual and reproductive life for themselves. The wide spread discontent over the medicine and medication played a role toactivate 1970’s grassroots political activism. In the period of 1980-1990,however, the radical tendency emphasizing self-help and consciousness raisingwere replaced by the liberal current seeking moderate reform within theestablished health care system. The main objective of this study is to examinethe historical feature of women’s health movement and from a viewpoint of thepolitics of citizenship to interpret the implication of the institutionalization ofthe women’s health movements.
