Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate perception of special education teachers on the internalized problems and externalized problems of students with autism spectrum disorders and students with intellectual disabilities. The research design of this study was a quantitative, non-experimental comparative and correlational study. The subjects sampled from 10 special schools were 203 special education teachers. Two independent samples t-tests and pearson product correlation coefficient were implemented for data analysis. The study results were as follows. First, there was a statistically significant difference of the internalized problems between students with autism spectrum disorders and students with intellectual disabilities. Second, there was a statistically significant difference of the externalized problems between students with autism spectrum disorders and students with intellectual disabilities. Third, the internalized problems of students with autism spectrum disorders were positively correlated with th externalized problems of them. The internalized problems of students with intellectual disabilities were positively correlated with the externalized problems of them. The limitations of the study and suggestions for future studies were discussed.
