한국어번역 학습자의 기계번역 결과에 대한 수정(Post Editing)능력 분석 -중국어권 학습자의 MT-PE 실험을 중심으로-

Abstract

This study expects that changes in MT in Korean Language and Translation education will also be reflected in the aspects of learning and training of Korean language translation and interpretation. In this study, we look into the types of translation errors of MT-PE in Korean translation and the results of PE performance are then observed in detail. And with the help of this result, the MT-PE ability required by Chinese translation students will be thoroughly studied. In the study of PE behaviour, PE is defined as the act of translation process that completes a translator’s machine translated work and not a supplementary act to be done after translating. We then divide a translator’s PE behaviour into 4 categories and are analyzed in detail. First, we divide the mistranslation or translation error of MT into abandonment of performance and inability to recognise. A translator’s implementation of PE is then divided into PE success if it makes correction and PE failure if it again reproduces error. In the experiment, 63 MT errors are divided into 4 categories and these 4 categories are furthermore divided into 9 categories and whether the error is still retained or the error has been rectified is thoroughly observed. 7 participants were divided into two groups: translation learner group and translation expert group. The differences between these two groups are examined and their PE ability was tested through experiments. The result of PE performance of the 9 types of error is that the correctness of the final translation is influenced by the difference between mother tongue and Korean language and the participants’ understanding of MT-PE.(Hankuk University of Foreign Studies)
