Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of an individualized positive behavior intervention and support (PBIS) via tele-practice teacher training on problem behaviors (obsessive and aggressive behaviors) of an elementary school student with intellectual disabilities (ID). In this study, tele-practice teacher training via web-based remote training was utilized and a multiple baseline design across behaviors was used to examine the functional relationship between obsessive and aggressive behaviors of the target student and an individualized PBIS. First, we identified a problem behavior through function-based assessment. Based on the result of the assessment, we developed multi-element intervention strategies including setting event and antecedent-based intervention, alternative behavior teaching strategies, and consequence-based intervention. The results of this study demonstrated that an individualized PBIS via tele-practice teacher training was effective in reducing obsessive and aggressive behaviors of the student with ID. In addition, the outcomes were maintained and generalized across different times and settings. Furthermore, the results indicate that an individualized PBIS delivered by tele-practice teacher training is feasible and applicable to support teachers who experience difficulties in managing problem behaviors of students with developmental disabilities.
