적대국 · 동맹국 게임을 통한 병자호란 발발 원인 재해석

1636년 발생한 병자호란은 우리 민족 역사상 가장 참담한 전쟁으로 기록되어 있다. 동북아시아의 명·청 패권 교체 시기에 발생한 전쟁의 소용돌이 속에서 조선은 명나라 중심의 기존 패권 질서와 청나라 중심의 새로운 패권 질서 사이에서 선택의 기로에 서 있었다. 본 연구의 목적은 호란기 조선의 명나라와 청나라에 대한 군사, 안보, 외교 정책을 동맹 게임과 적대국 게임을 통해 분석하고 병자호란의 원인을 재해석하는 것이다. 연구결과 조선은 합리적인 의사결정을 하지 못했고, 안보-동맹의 딜레마가 명나라가 아닌 조선에서만 비대칭적으로 적용되고 있었음을 알 수 있었다. 이는 소중화(小中華) 사상으로 인해 경직된 조선의 정책 결정자들의 태도가 낳은 결과였다. 본 연구를 통해 국제안보이론으로 조선이 시행한 군사·안보·외교 정책을 재해석함으로써, 오늘날 한반도의 어려운 안보 현실을 극복할 수 있는 작은 이정표가 되기를 기대해본다.
Abstract
The Qing's Invasion into the Joseon Dynasty(1636) is recorded as the most terrible war in the history of the Korean people. The Joseon Dynasty was caught in a maelstrom of sudden change of hegemony and had to choose between the existing order of hegemony centered on the Ming and the new order of hegemony centered on the Qing. The study was to analyze the confused military, security and foreign policies about the Ming and the Qing Dynasties of the Joseon Dynasty through the alliance game and the adversary game and to reinterpret the cause of the Qing's Invasion. As a result of applying the Joseon's respective military, security and foreign policy on the Ming and the Qing to the model of the alliance game and the adversary game, we could see that the lack of rational decision-making and the security-alliance dilemma were applied asymmetrically only in the Joseon not the Ming. This was the result of the rigid policy-maker's attitude as a result of the Sojungwha thought, that is discrimination between the civilized ones and the barbarians, that had been hindering rational decision-making during the Joseon dynasty. Through this study, I hope to serve as a small milestone for overcoming the difficult security reality of the Korean Peninsula today by reinterpreting the military, security and foreign policy implemented by the Joseon Dynasty through modern international security theory.
