하토야마 정권의 대외정책과 한일관계 전망

Abstract

Not only domestic politics in Japan but only a fundamental change in international relationship is a major issue in Hatoyama’s Democratic Party of Japan. The Japanese Prime Minister leads a campaign on a promise to redefine Tokyo’s relationship with Washington and to reorient Japanese foreign policy centered on Asia, which involves building an EU-style East Asian Community. All these foreign policies are based on ‘fraternity’ originated from Hatoyama’s political philosophy. His policies toward other nations, rather idealistic before, have become revised versions especially around issues with U.S. since he elected. This tendency might last during Hatoyama administration. Plan for East Asian Community is also making progress between reality and ideality. It is considered to come up to Korea’s expectations in that the Hatoyama administration tries to take more friendly stance on ‘historical issues’ between two countries and also has an Asia-centered policy as East Asian Community plan itself shows. The 100th anniversary of the Japanese annexation of Korea, 2010, should be a year of consensus on the way to build much better relationship within the both countries
