Abstract

This study aimed to explore how pre-service early childhood teachers perceive the concept of care. Data were collected from 250 pre-service teachers to comprehensively examine their understanding of the role of care in children’s development and growth. Data collection was conducted through surveys, and the analysis utilized metaphor analysis techniques. The findings revealed that the pre-service teachers viewed care as more than simply fulfilling physiological needs; they recognized it as an essential resource that supports the holistic development of children. In particular, care was perceived to play a crucial role in fostering children’s potential, providing emotional stability, and facilitating social relationships. These results highlight the need to emphasize the role of care in teacher education programs and suggest expanding societal recognition of care and enhancing policy support.
