Effect of Mother’s Achievement Pressure on the Child’s Academic Performance Ability and Academic Stress: Mediating Effect of Ego Resilience

In this study, the influence of the mother’s achievement pressure on the child’s academic performance ability and academic stress together with the mediating effect of ego resilience on the relationship between them was examined by using data from the Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC). Statistical analysis was conducted on data from 2019 concerning 1,390 children and the results are as follows. First, it was found that the mother’s achievement pressure influenced the children’s academic performance ability. The higher the mother’s achievement pressure, the lower the child’s academic performance level. Second, it was verified that the mother’s achievement pressure affected the child’s academic stress. The higher the mother’s achievement pressure level, the higher the children’s academic stress level. Third, the partial mediating effect of ego resilience on the effect of the mother’s achievement pressure on the child’s academic performance was verified. Last, the partial mediating effect of ego resilience on the effect of the mother’s achievement pressure on the child’s academic stress was verified. Therefore, it is necessary to intervene in consideration of parental achievement pressure and ego resilience, which are effective in improving child's academic performance ability and reducing academic stress.
Abstract
