This study starts with an interest in the ‘becoming individuation’ of an adolescent not having support from his family. The research method is life-historical narrative inquiry. I(the researcher) select this because I believe in the power of his narrative in his era. This study shows a “well-grown” adolescent, Dongju, how he has lived well without family support and what he has needed to grow well in society. I want to show it from his perspective. I collected his data from 2019, March to 2020, January, and 2022, September. I focused on continuity, interaction, and the situation of his life story, so we did authentic dialogue according to the Narrative method. Mainly, I paid attention to our era’s welfare and education related to poverty. Through his story, he lived storied life and re-lived his story in reflection via dialogue. He could have done separation-individuation with significant others in a welfare agency and school. As a researcher, I think about care, community, and identity for a better life, such as adolescents like him. We need to understand his in-depth life to help him do optimal separation-individuation.
