Abstract
The goals of this study are to examine the influence of supervisory style on the supervisory working alliance and on the satisfaction with supervision each and to investigate whether the supervisory style is mediated to the satisfaction with supervision. 281 supervisees who had been engaged into their personal supervisions with one supervisor at least three times in the last 6 months answered to the questionnaires on supervisory style, supervisory working alliance, and satisfaction with supervision. For data analysis, the path analysis was performed. The results of analysis are as below. First, the supervisory style is an important factor which explains the supervisory working alliance and the satisfaction with supervision; each of three dimensions of supervisory style-the dimension of attraction, interpersonal sensitivity, and task-orientation-significantly increased the supervisory working alliance and the satisfaction with supervision. This result shows that a supervisor needs to develop his/her effective supervisory style having a perception of his/her own style. Secondly, the supervisory working alliance is mediated with the relationship between the dimensions of supervisory style and the satisfaction with supervision. These results explain that building a solid working alliance is needed for increasing of supervisee’s satisfaction with supervision and that supervisory style is one of the important factors that are effective on the working alliance. The dimension of attraction revealed in-direct effects on the satisfaction; the dimension of interpersonal sensitivity and of task-orientation revealed in-direct and direct effects on it. These results show that the in-direct effects are caused by the natural acceptance of supervisee regarding the dimension of attraction as the supervisor’s basic attitude or his/her common factor and that the direct effects are caused by the supervisees’ sensitive acceptance.
