초심상담자와 상담전문가가 겪는 어려움과 극복방안에 대한 개념도 연구

본 연구에서는 개념도 방법을 사용하여 초심상담자와 상담전문가가 겪는 어려움과 이를 극복하는 방법을 비교함으로써 상담자 경력에 따른 경험의 차별적 특징을 그들의 입장에서 이해하고자 하였다. 초심상담자 8명과 상담전문가 8명을 대상으로 면접을 실시하고 핵심문장을 추출한 뒤 다차원척도법과 군집분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 초심상담자들은 상담에 대한 자신감과 확신이 부족하고 내담자들의 반응에 영향을 많이 받는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 반해 상담전문가들은 상담의 대상과 폭이 확장되면서 오는 어려움과 함께 직무환경, 자기계발과 자기관리의 필요성과 관련된 어려움을 호소하였다. 어려움의 극복 측면에서 초심상담자와 상담전문가 모두 상담분야에 있는 동료 및 지도감독자의 도움, 상담 사례 및 워크샵을 통한 학습, 그리고 개인적으로 성장하고 있다는 생각이 도움이 된다고 하였다. 아울러 초심상담자들은 초심자라는 사실을 받아들이고 의논할 수 있는 사람들이 있다는 점을 떠올리는 것이 어려움을 극복하는데 도움이 된다고 하였고, 상담전문가들은 상담 이외의 개인생활에서 오는 에너지 충전도 도움이 된다고 하였다. 본 연구는 상담자 발달 단계 중 초심자와 전문가가 각각 경험하는 어려움과 이에 대한 극복 방안을 심도 있게 조사함으로써 상담자 교육에 유용한 시사점을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
Abstract
This study explored the distinctive characteristics of novice and expert counselors in terms of their perceived difficulties and ways of overcoming them using the concept-mapping method. A total of 8 novice counselors and 8 expert counselors were interviewed and key sentences from those interviews were extracted, sorted and rated by themselves. Multidimensional Scaling and Hierarchical Cluster Analysis method were used in order to identify dimensions and clusters of their experiences. The results suggest that the novice counselors reported difficulties primarily from a lack of confidence and assurance and thus were vulnerable to others' feedback including their clients. On the contrary, the expert counselors experienced difficulties in dealing with the work environment and the challenges of self-care and further growth. As to the overcoming strategies, both of the novice and expert counselors relied on colleagues and supervisors' support, learning through counseling cases and workshops, and the sense of self-growth. In addition, it was beneficial for the novice counselors to accept the fact of being a novice and consider having someone to consult with. For the expert counselors it was found helpful to have quality times outside counseling. This study ends with implications, limitations, and suggestions for future studies.
