유아기 자살생존자의 심리적 고통과 애도에 대한 자문화기술지

An Auto-ethnography about psychological distress and mourning of early childhood suicide survivor

이 연구는 유아기 자살생존자인 연구자의 경험을 내부자적 관점으로 살펴보고, 밖으로 꺼내기 어려운 가족구성원의 자살과 그로 인한 내적 고통과 의미를 탐색하였다. 연구의 목적은 이 과정을 통해 진정한 애도로 가는 방향을 모색하고자 함에 있었다. 연구방법으로는 자문화기술지 연구방법을 사용하였다. 유아기에 아버지를 자살로 잃은 연구자의 내적 경험을 기술하고, 그 의미를 심리 문화적 차원에서 분석하였다. 연구자료 수집은 자기회상자료, 자기분석기록, 가족과의 인터뷰 등을 통해 이루어졌다. 자료들을 분석한 결과 ‘누구에게도 이해받지 못할 것만 같은, 이상한 나’, ‘막연한 아픔을 앓는 나’, ‘진짜인 나를 보기 시작하는 나’라는 세 가지의 주제가 도출되었다. ‘누구에게도 이해받지 못할 것만 같은, 이상한 나’를 통해 심리적 낙인과 깊은 죄책감과 수치로 죄인처럼 움츠리며 살아온 나를 발견하게 되었다. ‘막연한 아픔을 앓는 나’를 통해서는 아버지의 자살에서 기인한 죽음의 공포로부터 자신을 보호기위해 슬픔과 두려움을 외면하고, 무감각과 무기력 속에서 유기된 삶을 살고 있는 자신의 모습을 알 수 있었다. 마지막으로 ‘진짜인 나를 보기 시작하는 나’를 통해 실은 내가 죽도록 아팠고, 아버지를 마음 깊이 그리워했다는 것을 알게 되었다. 이러한 과정을 통해 아버지의 죽음을 공식적으로 애도하게 되었고, 아픔을 이해하고 수용할 수 있게 되었다. 본 연구결과가 유아기 자살생존자의 심리내적 고통의 실제와 그에 대한 이해를 도울 수 있기를 바란다. 또한 가족과의 역동을 이해하고 치유를 위한 기초자료로서 활용될 수 있기를 희망한다.

Abstract

This study reviewed the inner perspective of the experience of the researcher who was early suicide survivor, and explored the internal pain and meaning of the family member's suicide that is hard to bring out. The purpose of the study was to find a way to true mourning through this process. As a research method, the auto-ethnography was used. The inner experience of the researcher who lost his father to suicide in infancy was described and its meaning was analyzed from the psychological and cultural dimensions. The collection of research data was done through self-retrospection data, self-analysis records, and interviews with family members. The analysis of the data revealed three themes: “Strange self; seems like no one understands”, “Suffering self; from vague pain”, and “Starting to see real self”. I found myself crouching like a sinner with a psychological stigma, deep guilt, and shame through the “Strange self”. Through I could see myself living an abandoned life in numbness and lethargy, ignoring grief and fear to protect myself from the fear of death caused by my father’s suicide. Finally, Through this process, the researcher was able to officially mourn father’s death and understand and accept the pain. Hopefully, this study will help understand the reality of inner psychological suffering of early childhood suicide survivors. And also hope to understand the dynamics of early childhood suicide survivors and their family, and use them as basic data for healing.
