율곡 도덕 감정론의 지각 기제- 율곡의 ‘誠意’를 중심으로

Abstract

The primary goal of the present thesis is to consider the theory of moral emotions of Yulgok Yi I (栗谷 李珥, 1536-1584) by focusing on the mechanism of the perception of “the mind-heart” (心), in which “sŏng ŭi” (誠意) is a pivotal element. To this end, this study will reveal that Yulgok stipulated moral emotions (四端) as appropriate emotions of correct perception while proactively expressing the perception of mind-heart as the key intermediary of “Human Nature turns into Emotion” (性發爲情). This study will also explore how Yulgok actively guided consciousness towards the appropriate goodness by analyzing the mechanism of perception to which “sŏng ŭi” is central as a reflective pondering activity that Yulgok emphasized for the realization of the appropriate emotion. Lastly, by exploring the meaning of self-cultivation intrinsic to “sŏng ŭi”, this thesis intends to establish that Yulgok’s ‘sŏng ŭi’ surpasses the meaning of a superficial change of awareness on a rational level, and is an activity in which the domains of “knowing” (知) · “acting” (行) and “the unaroused state” (未發) · “the aroused state” (已發) become interdependently involved to ultimately achieve a fundamental change of the psychophysical component.
