Abstract
This study substantiates if gender and educational background makes the difference directly on developmental functions, or mediated indirectly by developmental network characteristics, in the developmental process of early career individuals. To this end, structural equation model was applied. The results of analysis are outlined below. First, the males have larger network and the network with higher level of developers, which consequently lead to higher level of developmental functions. In addition, men intend to avoid the relationship with developers from other organizations, which reduces disadvantage on career support and role-modeling. In contrast, women, who are oriented toward the relationship with developers from other organizations, get disadvantage on career support and role-modeling. Second, educational background has a direct effect on all of developmental functions, not mediated by developmental network characteristics. A high level of educational background is related to a high-quality career support, psycho-social support, and role-modeling.
